Spring 2011--Foscoe

Lee Anderson and Dane Hilton met a few years ago at Appalachian State where they became roommates in a small cabin in the mountain town of Foscoe. It was during their stay there that they realized they shared an interest in music, getting to know one another by just sitting around and playing guitar together. These beginnings are an almost perfect fit for the type of music they play, a stripped down brand of mountainy folk rock. Lee Anderson and Dane Hilton have found a formula that works for them and while most of their songs don’t deviate too far from it, it doesn’t mean each one isn’t as fun or catchy as hell as the last.

Dane plays the banjo and Lee plays the harmonica while both of them share guitar and singing duties on the tracks. And while they collaborate on the songwriting, it’s still a pretty new thing for them. They started out playing covers they liked for friends, songs that everybody could sing along to. “We only began writing songs pretty recently. We’re still kind of playing around and figuring out just how it works” says Lee. But what these guys may lack in experience, they more than make up for in shear talent. They have an uncanny knack for vocal harmonies that work perfectly over the guitar and banjo. This combined with lyrics about girls, crazy neighbors, and life in the mountains, create songs that’ll definitely stick with you after you’re done listening.

This past winter, Lee and Dane took a trip back to Foscoe. They hiked up one of the old mountains they used to frequent when they lived there. While on the mountain, they got inspired and wrote most of the songs presented here. The tracks are a great sampling of what these guys have to offer, so give them a listen and hopefully you’ll enjoy.
