Secondhand Corduroy is a local band made up of UNC students Elias Cooper, Gavin Cobb, and singer Heather Farthing. Elias and Gavin met while studying abroad in England. Their shared musical interests inspired them to start a band. When Heather was introduced to them, the three started playing together as Secondhand Corduroy. The band is relatively new, but their brand of low-key folk and bluegrass has secured them a solid spot in the local music scene.

Gavin plays guitar, Heather sings, and Elias does both. The three have a unique chemistry that works well for the type of singer/songwriter folk music they play.

Inspired by such diverse rock and folk artists like Neil Young, Mississippi John Hurt, Derek Trucks, and King Curtis, the group strikes a balance by creating music that draws on the past, but also remains relevant today. Elias, the principle songwriter, says that their songs contain themes like regret, longing, love, and dreaming that are pretty much universal in most music today.

The group has no future plans at the moment, but hope to continue to get their music out to the local crowd. If you like what you hear from them, Secondhand Corduroy play the open mic nights at Jack Sprat and the Station most Mondays so go give them a listen.
